Cambrai Dinner 2017

Cambrae Day 2017 Report
Cambrai Day Peter Branagan reported that all the activities of the day went particularly well.
At 1200hrs, the group from B Sqn 3 Cav were well looked after by the people at the Waler Club who also donated the lunch to those who attended. The mobile and static displays were first-rate and were well received by all, as was the museum visit. The memorial service at 1600hrs was well attended and much appreciated by all, especially the visitors who presented a marching banner to Joe Linford for inclusion in the display. The visitors were very appreciative for having been invited to be involved in the ceremony, hosted by John Baines and Peter Branagan.
In the evening, the mess, dinner, and catering were outstanding, and Peter also praised John Baines for his efforts in arranging the accommodation. The guest speaker, Lt Col Joshua Gillman was outstanding, and it was topped off by having the Patron, Brig Acutt, available to respond. The meal was excellent and the buffet format of the dinner was a great success and it appears that all were well looked after on the night, which was reflected in the drinks account for the evening. In all it was a memorable dinner. David Finlayson remarked how well it had worked with groups arranged on tables of friends and associates.
The raffle held as a fundraiser was a great success, raising $1739. This figure was achieved in large part by the generous donation by Lindsay Christensen of the excellent prizes, which meant there was no outlay required from the receipts, as well as the donation of $1,000 by Joan Finlayson, and of course, Rod Westgarth who put it all together. These funds go towards the Christmas hampers for older members and the Christmas Picnic, which Rod also organises.
Special note was made regarding the exceptionally high standard of presentation and behaviour of all the staff who looked after our members the night. It was decided that the Secretary should draft a letter to be sent to the mess stating the appreciation of this.
The overall feeling, a very successful event which should be promoted to members in future years.
